At the lavish state banquet in the Great Hall of the People, Presidents Trump and Xi exchanged warm toasts and optimistic remarks, capping the first day of the summit.
Xi Jinping’s highlights:
- Stressed that common interests between China and the US “outweigh differences.”
- Linked China’s national rejuvenation with Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda, calling both achievable together.
- Warned that mishandling Taiwan could lead to “clashes and even conflicts,” putting the entire relationship at risk.
Trump’s highlights:
- Praised the day’s talks as “productive” and highlighted a “deep sense of mutual respect.”
- Thanked Xi for the hospitality and formally invited him to a White House visit on September 24.
The evening featured top U.S. CEOs in attendance and continued positive personal rapport between the two leaders.
